New tools, better editing flow, and Beta access wait list!

Full release notes

This release took a while, and for good reason! There are a lot of big changes, new features and bug fixes rolled up into it.

Changes

  • Trip Builder, evolved

    • Multiple versions of the Trip Builder were provided as an option while I was transitioning away from a Leaflet-based solution to a WebGL-based solution. At this point all development is now focused on the new WebGL-based solution, previously known as "V2".
  • Updated right sidebar

    • This used to be hovering over the map, which was leading to some challenges with fitting on screens appropriately. This also paves the way for further customization of these interfaces.
  • Finer map style controls

    • As part of the improved sidebar, under the Map Style section you'll now find not only selectors for the map style itself, but also ways to customize some of the data that is being presented.
  • Improved filtering

    • Places and Way Point filtering has been greatly improved, making it much easier for you to find exactly what you're looking for.
  • Multiple Place / Waypoint editing

    • Now when you select multiple Places or Waypoints you can open the editor to make changes to the entire selection range.
    • Fields that do not match will show up with [*]. Removing this will clear the data in that field across all selected elements. If you leave it in place and instead add text after it, that text will be appended to the end of the field in each element.
  • Beta access wait list

    • Visitors to the site that do not have an account can now join the wait list! After signing up, they’ll receive a confirmation email and will be notified as soon as access becomes available. While on the wait list, they will receive periodic updates through email notifications. Tell your friends!
  • General Items

    • Some UI polish. You'll notice that buttons are now rounded like the UI in DMD2.
    • Map styles are limited to Adventure and Satellite at this point. Additional styles will be added over time.
    • Added a Use my current position option when creating a Section that is not connected to a previous section.
    • The desc field is now supported in Sections. This is represented in the Section UI by hovering over or clicking the info icon in the upper right. This data both imported from and exported to GPX under desc in trk and rte nodes.
    • Added GPX support for multiple categories when present on waypoints.
    • Added a Default Trip Access setting to the UI to give users a way to define how the privacy on Trips they're building should be set by default.

Fixes

  • General Items
    • Refactoring of code to improve performance.
